Top 5 Things to Watch
Sunday, November 3, 2024 4:56AM CST

OMAHA (DTN) -- Here are the Top 5 things the DTN Newsroom is tracking for the week of Nov. 3. Watch for coverage of these and other topics through the week on our subscription platforms as well as on www.DTNPF.com.

Note that all report release times are Central Standard Time unless otherwise noted.

1. WASDE Friday: An important harvest-time World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) report will end the week. As always, those reports are released at 11 a.m.; we'll have initial numbers minutes afterward followed by updates throughout the morning. Don't forget to refresh your browsers to ensure you're getting all the updates. We'll also have our monthly WASDE Webinar, featuring the thoughts of new DTN Lead Analyst Rhett Montgomery, at 12:30 p.m. To register for that, go here: https://www.dtn.com/…

2. Time adjustments: Most Americans and Canadians will adjust their clocks to Standard Time on Nov. 3.

3. Choices to make: We'll of course be watching the Nov. 5 election results, and particularly how the U.S. and global markets react to those results. All fall we've been providing the agricultural perspective on various important races. We'll continue with that analysis as results come in, however long that may take.

4. Welcomed rains: A big part of the nation received some well-needed moisture last week, and we may see more in the coming days. We'll look for the latest harvest reports in Monday's weekly USDA NASS Crop Progress report, and also watch how precipitation influences grazing land conditions in areas where temps remain high enough for forage regrowth.

5. The Week's Economic Reports: Monday, at 9 a.m. the latest Factory Orders numbers are out, followed by 10 a.m. Grain Inspections report. At 3 p.m. is the USDA NASS weekly Crop Progress report. Tuesday we'll see Trade Deficit numbers at 7:30 a.m., and later in the day the start of national, state and local election results. Wednesday is busier for reports, starting with 8:45 a.m. release of S&P final services PMI, the 9:30 a.m. EIA Weekly Petroleum Status report and ethanol data, then at 2 p.m. the latest Broiler Hatchery figures. Thursday we'll see latest Grain Export Sales numbers at 7:30 a.m., plus Initial Jobless Claims and U.S. Productivity numbers. At 9 a.m. Wholesale Inventories are out. At 1 p.m. we'll all get the latest Fed interest rate decision, followed by the 1:30 p.m. Fed Chairman Powell press conference. At 2 p.m. Consumer Credit numbers are out. Friday sees the 9 a.m. release of Consumer Sentiment, then our 11 a.m. USDA Crop Production and November WASDE reports coverage. At 1 p.m. is monthly U.S. Federal Budget report, followed by 2:30 p.m. release of CFTC's Commitment of Traders report.

Bonus DTN content: In the latest Field Posts podcast, hosted by Sarah Mock, DTN Ag Policy Editor Chris Clayton reviews the results of the DTN/Progressive Farmer Pulse of Rural America Poll (https://www.dtnpf.com/…). This includes a fascinating trove of information about how farmers, ranchers, and rural Americans are thinking about not only this election and the decision ahead of them, but also how they feel about the farm economy, their biggest challenges and issues, and what the future might look like. He guides listeners through the major survey results, unpacking the biggest surprises and best indicators of how voters are feeling across the countryside.

Mock and Clayton also talk about Presidential chances, and top issues from immigration and inflation to foreign farmland ownership and conservation. Then Clayton dives deeper on how farmers are responding to what they've heard and seen from the two major party platforms, and how major policies might play out in the weeks, months and years of the next administration. Clayton also tackles weather challenges, discusses the importance of the national debt, and the outlook for the farm safety net.

You can listen to this and other Field Posts podcasts at https://www.dtnpf.com/…, https://www.buzzsprout.com/… and they're also available on podcast hosting sites such as Apple Podcasts and Spotify.
